Sonnet 314.00 – ADHD

Sonnet 314.00

I just don’t know why it’s so important

To understand what they want me to know

About mathematics, adverbs and ancient

Men and rivers like Homer and Congo.

I hate having to hear the word “focus”

When all I’m doing is feeling my thoughts

Of Saturn’s moons and rings and rocket thrust

While naming the Gemini astronauts.

Why don’t they care about things that I like

And know already about stuff that counts

Like how to hold a sneeze or ride a bike

For a block with no hands and not fall down?

But I’ll do what I’m told and try once more

To divide, define and recite “Fourscore”

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
